I drilled a hole, slid a piece of plastic tubing (you don't even need braided hose) over a bolt.  And that's it. Posted Wed Jun 16, 2004, 12:00am Subject: Re: Anyone built a knock box?   I got plumber friend to source me a piece of 150mm PVC pipe + end cap, cut the pipe at an angle (10cm drop), drilled a couple of holes and then made a crossbeam of dowel covered in PVC tubing with chair leg rubbers as end pieces/shockmounts. I cover it with a small plastic bag when not in use to reduce odours. I am contemplating building some for friends as gifts. It is just a small rectangular stainless pan about 2 inches deep. They drilled a hole on each side and ran a 1/2 inch threaded rod through it with a nut on each end. The 'knock bar' rubber piece is just a piece of high pressure hose cut to length with the rod through it. The frame is a simple wooden frame a bit deeper than the pan, and the pan just sits in it...just lift out the pan to empty and clean. It has been being knocked about our counter for a couple years now. Hope this helps... This cushions the knocks and keeps the wood clean. If your bar is not removable, you could slit a piece of hose so it wraps around the bar. It will look nicer than PVC pipe, too.
