Posted Fri Feb 24, 2012, 1:28pm Subject: Giotto Rocket not heating up/pressurasing the water
Hi there, here's my first post here and already asking for help…
Our Giotto Rocket stopped working today. It worked fine for the first two espressos of today. However, when I wanted to make another later today, pressure was gone and I noticed it had cooled down as well. So somehow it broke down during the day :-(
When I turn on the machine, I hear the familiar soft click inside, after which you'd normally hear it pressurise and heat up. It doesn't do that any longer now. I've already checked the water level sensor, and that works and notices whether or not there is indeed water. As there doesn't seem to be much else I can easily check, I'm at a loss as to what can be wrong with the machine.
Any ideas as to what could be wrong and what I could do to fix the machine?

Try resetting the over temp safety switch, it is a device screwed into the boiler and it has a red button on it, push the button back in to reset the device if it has tripped. It should click if it has tripped.

Many thanks for your answer! Sounds like a likely solution.
Pity that just today I have brought the Giotto to the importer to be repaired. If the safety switch is indeed the problem, I'm sure they'll know how to fix it and not overly charge me for the service :-)
Thanks again, and I'll let you know what the problem was when I get the machine back (which will be in about three weeks they warned me; they were VERY busy with repairs at the moment). Aarghh, Three weeks without good espresso, not sure how I'm going to survive ;-)

As promised, I would update you when we got our machine back. Well, yesterday I picked it up again from the repair shop and we now have a working Giotto machine again :-)
The problem with the machine turned out to be a broken "control unit," which they replaced. Quite an expensive repair (€180/$240), but still much cheaper than having to buy a new machine. Hopefully this time it keeps working longer (we had the machine for just 3 years).
