Thanks to you, and everyone else who responded. I don't have a thermocouple and it sounds like my bi-metal probe is too slow to do a great test. I do leave the portafilter (not the bottomless) in place when not in use, so it's heated up with the rest of the system.

When I have time this weekend I'll have to do some experimentation with raising the PID temperature.

Man i wished I had seen this while i had the CC1 for the review.

 
You know those people that want to tell you how to raise your kids but have none of their own? That is how i feel when someone with a kitchen appliance tells me how the merits or dis-merits of my machine or how to use it.
