Hi John,
I don't know about the auto-dosing feature so you should listen to those who are more knowledgeable. Good luck.
Yes I have a boat and will be close by - I just reserved dock space at Delaware City Marina. I recently purchased a neglected 1969 Swan 43 sloop. To launch, I need to finish building a new rudder, if that gives you any idea about the condition of the boat. Like you, I have children who love the water and working on boats, two boys, ages 15 and 19, so they really can do a lot.
Now I am thinking about how I can get my wife to consider an espresso machine for the boat!
I think you will like the BZ07 but, like me, you may start to drink too much coffee!

Chris. For the boat, if you have a cook top in the galley you can get a stove top hot water kettle and a My Pressi twist then take your grinder from home and have all you could ever want on the boat. It will not take up a lot of room, is easy to use, gives great espresso and does not require any electric power. I have one for travel as it was the best answer for me to the limits of size, weight and power requirements. You should at least give it a look as it is only $149 and in a pinch, you can just use a sauce pan on the stove for the hot water. YMMV!

Tried to order today but no one ever called me back! Looking at B7O7 fully auto, Vario W and a few accessories. I forget what my original budget was but I have a feeling this is about 2x what my original plan was!

I was in the same position as you last October. I ended up blowing my budget and bought a BZ07 Semiautomatic and a Vario (the Vario W was just being introduced). In retrospect, I should have gone with the fully automatic and the W, so I think you are making a fantastic choice. I didn't I predict how much I would appreciate the fully automatic feature. At the time, I cringed at the thought of paying the extra $100. Funny how I look back and think, "yeah, that would have been worth it". I also didn't realize, as a noob, that I would prefer dosing by weight. I thought the timed feature of the Vario would be sufficient, but I found that I like the better control weighing the dose gives me. So now I am weighing out my beans and then single dosing the grinder.
Nevertheless, I am making great coffee and enjoying my setup multiple times a day.

It might be over your budget but this is not an impulse buy you have been thinking about this for at least a month. You have researched it and made an informed choice. With a set up like that you should never have to upgrade. (doesn't mean you might ever want too but you will not be forced to) I did the same thing, went way over what I first said I would spend, but I thought about it a lot and read all the "I want to upgrade this starter machine" posts and figured in the long run I would be happier with a machine I would live with for a long time. And I love the weighing right into my basket with the vario W.

B7O7 fully auto, Vario W, tamper and milk jug (forget the name) has me slightly over $2000 with overnight saturday delivery. Now that it will arrive in time for Mother's Day, where can I get beans? Would Whole Foods carry them? I'm going to get plenty of whole milk and beans so we can spend a lot of time practicing making all these drinks. Hopefully I can make a decent latte on Sunday for us to enjoy.
