(For anyone still having steaming issues, my wife got me the Toroid Milk Frothing Pitcher (Click Here (www.amazon.com)) for my birthday. While I still see it as a crutch, it doesn't require me to plug the wand with unsightly toothpicks and has made steaming a breeze.

Opps..I meant to say 1/4 of a teaspoon...so that should be sufficient for backflushing right?
Also, did Jim send out an email on the 'how to descale' your machine method ? I rec'd on how to recharge softener and backflush but don't recall or see any email on how to descale..any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Guys.
I must have watched a hundred different videos on YouTube and none stand out more than any others. They all pretty much suggest the same techniques. When it turns out right for me, it is at least 1/2 dumb luck too. :) Invariably I either don't have the milk foamed quite right or my technique is bad, but every once in a while . . . .
I seem to get the polar bear in a snow storm a lot (milk over-aerated). I have had some success lately though isolating the initial blob by pouring in a circle around it, this seems to suck the stiffer foam under and at least leaves you with a chance of making something.
It is fun to keep trying anyway - one more part of the experience.

I decided today to tackle the warming tray issue. I went with the cabinet handle approach suggested by another member earlier in the thread. However, I decided to go with 4 handles instead of 1. The reason being that I can remove the tray by the handles in order to fill the water tank without first unloading the cups. I do not have to worry about them sliding off. I did lose a small bit of warming surface area this way, but not enough to worry about. I used nylon washers to isolate the metals (still not sure if dissimilar or not). I recommend putting masking tape on the tray before drilling to help minimize bit walk and to protect against scratches. Handles were about $3.50 each from home depot and I bought a bag of #8 x 3/8 machine screws (shorter than what comes with the handles). Total cost was < $20.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with the result. I think it improves the utility a bit.
