Subject: Issues with Silvia.
 

So I recived my "new to me" Silvia V1 today. way excited. It heats up and runs a shot just fine. but i get nothing when trying to steam. And when trying to run hot water throught the wand the pump kicks on but nothing comes out. Anyone have any thougths?

Yeah, sounds like scale to me too.  You may have to open the machine and disassemble some of it to soak affected parts in descaling solution.  There are some good "pictorial essays" on rebuilding Silvia that you may find helpful.  

Edit: Before you take it apart completely, try removing the steam wand tip and then see if that solves your problem.  If you're lucky, it'll just be clogged holes.  If that's the case, you probably still want to give her a good flush with a descaler such as Cafitza, JoGlo, Cleancaf or equivalent though.

Also, while you're at it, you might want to consider upgrading the wand to the articulating version.  When I finally did mine, I'd wished I'd done it much, much sooner.

Tanks for your help emradguy. I was all set and ready to tear into it. got the schematics and wiring diagrams off the net and everything but thanks to your advise i pulled the steam tip. plugged with a piece of rust. Saved me a ton of work.
