OPs haven't answered this question at all, so I don't see why you think they're not interested in doing more than pushing a button to get good coffee drinks. I don't think any of us can assume what they are or aren't willing to do. they need to tell us...and so far, they haven't. Is that why you assume that, because they haven't answered the question of how much effort they're willing to put into it?

Although I too don't really agree with Jason's response to the Nespresso. I can't imagine anyone who thinks themself a "coffeegeek" making such a recommendation. Have you tasted that stuff? Why don't you just tell them to go to Costco and buy a Keurig?

Ann and Peter... welcome to the CoffeeGeek forum... and good luck with the new relationship. It sounds exciting and here's hoping it works out for you two. Now... good coffee. I drank coffee from a generic drip "coffee" maker for many many years (I am an old man.) and I enjoyed my coffee... I thought. After coming to this forum I bought a Bunn coffee maker and I said to myself, "Now, this is good coffee!" I was happy. After a while I just HAD to check out roasting my own beans and next it was a cheap espresso machine. Even the cheap espresso machine (Saeco Aroma) knocked my socks off, and I have no desire to go back to drip coffee. I recently purchased a Gaggia Classic "oldie but goodie" which is still a starter machine, but at least it is a "real" espresso machine. My love for coffee has reached new heights and like I said before... nothing but espresso (Americanos) for this old man from now on. I must tell you that your experience with good coffee, especially espresso, will depend on your choice of grinder. This was so hard for me to believe when I started making espresso, but now I am on my fourth grinder and I finally got it right. Save yourself a lot of money and grief and buy a really nice grinder first. Good luck and enjoy the journey...
I don't either . . . in that a Nespresso is better than nothing. But it falls fall short of anything I can make with a true espresso machine, grinder, and fresh beans! ;^)

Wow 4 grinders? What happened to the pro grinder you got off ebay?x] You are very observant, Helen. I still have the Promac MD-64 AT I got off of eBay and it is doing a super job. Since the same grinder is sold under the more well-known Rancilio brand name I changed my posting to show that I own a Rancilio MD-50 AT for recognition purposes of those not familiar with the Promac brand. Four grinders... not a big story...
Grinder #1. Black and Decker Burr mill... not too bad for drip, but daughter needed a grinder and I gave it to her. Grinder #2. Mr. Coffee Burr Mill... ok for drip grind but just something to keep me grinding my own beans. Grinder #3. Baratza Maestro Plus... recalibrated to it finest settings and used it temporarily for "espresso" made with pressurized pf. I still have this and will use it for drip if I ever brew drip again. Grinder #4. Promac MD-64 AT... my "Super-Grinder"... I use it for espresso and will keep it until it disappears in a cloud of smoke.

now, I can definitely give a big +1 to that! (btw, I agree with "yuck" as well - I just know you have so many more constructive things to say than that)
