Hello geeks, I just purchased a beater of a machine. Paint is partially missing on the outside but I got it for $25 with the intentions of keeping it and not reselling it. I It functions just fine but I do not want/like the fact that the boiler coated with Teflon. Has anybody ever removed the Teflon? I do not want to spend $125 on a upgrade kit because I really don't have the money. Any ideas? BTW - the pf is Teflon coated too but I think I may just make it into a naked PF to save money and avoid the Teflon coating. Thanks!

I don't like Teflon either, and I am slowly replacing all my non stick stuff. But as long as the coating is not flaking off I feel like you are ok. I would open it up and see what it looks like inside the boiler. If it looks bad I would replace the boiler, if it looks good I would probably use it till I could upgrade the machine or the boiler. Not knowing what is under the teflon makes me hesitate to tell you to remove it. Clean it up, make the portafilter naked and see if you can sell it for double what you have in it as seed money for another one and so on...

Yes. I considered selling it after i polish it up. I tear down machines and refurbish them on occasion but this one I thought about. keeping till I make enough for a double boiler. I could probably get $100 for it. I sold one in new condition a few months back for $275. I jut don't want to add any cost to it. Thanks

I have one of these machines. I purchased it from a friend who found it in a thrift store for 30$. Everything worked on the machine, except that when pulling a shot there would be lots of Teflon flakes from the boiler. I ended up sandblasting the boiler and portafilter, and the Teflon coating came right off.
