Stupid, I know. Wasn't thinking. Now the aluminum (?) has tarnished/dulled. Is there any way to correct this? Is it still safe to use? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a new one? Noticed the coffee now tastes a tad 'burnt' :-(

The exterior will need to be polished again to bring back a bright finish but the maker is not ruined. If you feel like it, you can take a green scotch bright cleaning pad to clean up the inside from oxidation (it will the finish on the outside but it will work there too) but given time, it will season as said above.
