I am making the move to a higher end espresso maker (ran through 5 steam machines a decade ago and gave up trying to do it myself) now that I am retired and have the time to enjoy life (aka, espresso). I have read many items on line but am a 'hands on learner' and wonder if there are any sellers in So Cal (in San Diego and LA next week) that coffeegeek readers would recommend. I would like a shop that carries a number of the better lines that people write about (Vibiemme, La Cimba, La Spaziale, etc) and knowledgable sales staff who can walk me through the comparisons and the pros/cons. I would be a buyer from that source so I am not trying to suck them dry and then go on line to save $200. If you know of any on line sellers that have the patience and time to answer my numerous questions I would love your thoughts on those sources as an alternative. (No plans to be in the NW where I imagine they are all over.....).

Thanks so much for the quick response! I have emailed Pasquini. Do you have one of their machines or another type? What are your general thoughts about the machines that you have or have owned in the past?

I agree that Pasquini is a nice place to visit, but the only machines they sell that you would be considering are the Livia 90 and the Cimbali Junior. I just sold my Livia and it was/is a great espresso machine, but the current price is north of $1700, which is way too much considering the alternatives. I have only ever heard good things about the Junior, it's a whole price tier or two above the premium consumer HX machines, and it's straight up commercial in design (I don't care how shiny the SS case is, its a big metal box on legs). I've considered it, but I'm not a cafe, I don't intend on leaving a machine on all of the time, and I would rather put several thousand dollars into something...different.

I have no issue with Salvatore machines and I like them but that is a bit farther north than the OP was asking about and they only have their brand of machine, not a range like the OP asked about.
