And while we're on the subject of used, have you considered getting a commercial grinder (used or new)? I know you said that you aren't looking for anything "obscene," but if you're going to drop between $1k-$2k on a machine, you shouldn't even be considering skimping on the grinder. Now, to be clear, I'm certainly not knocking the Vario (As I haven't owned one and there are a ton of satisfied owners with distinguished pallets), but the grind quality and longevity of a commercial grinder will be superior. If you have a space restraint, then there is seemingly nothing in the price range that can even touch the Vario (besides maybe the Mazzer Mini), so go with the Vario. But if space isn't an issue, you can get a Mazzer Super Jolly in the $600s new and in the $250-$350 range used.

All four are important. Nothing is more important than the grinder.
Considering that you've never had a machine, this is truer than you know. Your machine will be limited by your grinder if you skimp. (Again, not saying that the Vario is skimping)
