I have experienced a noticeable drop in pressure from my steam wand. When I watch the steam, I can see it coming out of all three holes. I have taken off the tip and used the included tool to make sure there isn't anything sticking in the holes of the tip. Is there something else that I need to clean/calibrate?
I wasn't able to get anything approaching a whirlpool this morning, even with a relatively small amount of milk.
I checked my pressure of my one month old unit with the silicone disk (solid, no hole), and the gauge shows 10.5. Is this within expectations or should I have it adjusted? If it should be adjusted, is this in the range Breville will do, or will I have to do it myself? (In which case I would probably wait 11 months for the warranty to expire).
Ideally I would be experienced enough to know by taste whether an adjustment is needed, but I'm not. I think it's quite good already, but of course if it could be better I would like that.
I am exactly three days from the end of my return period for the smart grinder and have thoughts of taking the plunge on a Vario. I'm new to this level of espresso so I have to say that I'm pleased with the results I've gotten thus far from the BDB and smart grinder combo, but I was hoping that someone with experience with both grinders could tell me if it's really worth another $250.
Has anyone had their BDB suddenly stop during the middle of extraction? It happened for the fourth time to me this morning, and with a coffee that's $35 a pound :(. Any ideas about this? I'm going to call Breville unless I'm missing something really obvious.

Hello Everyone ... just joined this excellent site and need advice please .... I foolishly posted this as a new thread, when it would have been better in this owners thread - so I've copied it here because I think it will reach more BES900 owners. My apologies for not working that out in the first place.
I want to buy the Breville BES900 because a major store near me has it on special for $1199 and it seems to give so much for the price. I've researched quite a bit on this site and it looks like the machine for me ..... but it will be my first coffee machine.
My only concern is that I have no choice in my kitchen but to put it directly below overhead cupboards. There is only 30mm ( inch and a quarter ) clearance between the cup warmer on the top of the machine and the underside of the melamine cupboard/shelf where a microwave sits.
Can anyone please tell me ...... just how hot does the top of the BES900 get in use. Can you put your hand on it and leave it there ? Has anyone actually measured the temperature of the metal plate on top ?
I cannot find any recommendation from Breville about how much clearance this machine should have above it when in use.
I'm worried a hot machine might eventually damage or warp the chipboard above it.
Any advice would be appreciated ............... many thanks ........... espressomonster
