hii all i have just opened a small cafe in a busy town centre, being unsure if the buisness would take off i kept the original outlay to a minimum and bought a second hand machine which i realise is not always a good idea . i purchased a lacimbali M31 dosatron .after a few hours of tinkering i got the leaks repaired and the machine running. the problems now are the pump which was siezed is now leaking and the ribbon onto group1 keypad is damaged. now for the really silly question the pump motor does not run, so what does the pump actually do ,when should it run and why would it not run is it possible that a presure switch is stuck preventing the pump running. also is it possible to get a seal kit for the pump or do i have to purchase a complete pump.thanks, mick

The pump is used to fill the boiler when the level drops and it is used to provide pressure to brew coffee. It should run every time you try to brew espresso, without it providing pressure, you will not get any espresso. There is no electrical switch to turn it on or off due to pressure that I am aware of. There is a OPV valve to keep your brew pressure to 9 to 10 bar, depending on how it is set but it is not an electrical switch, it diverts water from the brew system that is over pressure, think of it as a governor letting too much pressure leave the brew system.
Depending on who made the pump you may or may not be able to get a rebuild kit, only you will be able to look for it as we do not know who made your pump or what parts are available where you are located. Sometimes, rotary pumps can get stuck if they are not used for a long time. You might be able to get it unstuck by removing it from the motor and turning the shaft on the pump with a wrench. If you do get it free again, it may or may not need seals or to be replaced anyway, only getting it to run again will tell you what it needs. Then again, the pump may not have issues and the motor may be bad or the start capp may be bad but you said it is leaking so you are likely looking at replacing it anyway.
