You have made it clear that you want something easy to use, quick to learn, with convenience features such as a built-in timer. The Breville Dual Boiler meets all those requirements and more.
As Cal says you can make great espresso without the features but that doesn't seem to be your direction. Cal will soon chime in that this is a relatively untested machine and has a more consumer construction than the usual machines. As a result he is concerned that it will not last as long as these more traditional machines. And he may be right.
However, a lot of folks who have bought these machines have found that they make really good espresso with a minimal learning curve when combined with a grinder such as a Baratza Vario. Check out Mark Prince's preview review.
On the other hand if you prefer the aesthetics of traditional machines, this isn't the machine for you.
