Just pulled this machine out to take her for a spin. Makes espresso, but no steam. I figure the pump is fried, or something, because it doesn't make any noise when I move the knob to the steam position. Is there anything I can try to resurrect it before getting rid of it?
Thanks
Mod note: as this is not a LEVER Machine, thread will be moved to Espresso Machines.

Hey thanks for your reply, but this machine doesn't have a steam valve to manually open. I've tried moving the switch from 'espresso' to 'steam' several times, sometimes pressing the heat button at the same time. Still nothing. I've had other automatic pump machines (Krups, Gaggia, Breville), and they all make a pulsating sound when switched over to 'steam', and I think I remember this one (Avanti) doing the same when it used to work.

If it's like a standard single boiler pump espresso machine, then switching it to the steam mode won't turn the pump on, but will only turn the boiler heater on to produce steam (or actually, bypass the brew thermostat, and use the steam thermostat instead). This is how the Gaggia Classics work for example.
Looking at the only pictures I can find on the web (which are on this forum...), there seems to be two switches at the back of the top of the machine, and a valve control in the middle on top. this might help explain things.
