Hamilton Beach 40729. It lasted me for just over two years (never actually broke or anything, I just gutted it for parts when I got my Pavoni), pulled great shots when paired with a good grinder, and it's cheap. Make no mistake, this is a disposable machine, and you will not be able to service it fully, but it should last a few years and work fine for you if you keep it well-maintained. Pair it with a Gaggia portafilter (chopped, if you like), maybe even a PID down the road, and you'll be set for a little while.

Just seconding those who said Gaggia. A used Gaggia (Carezza, Coffee, etc.) for $75-$100 is by far your best option in my opinion, and can easily get you great shots. The second-best option is to look out for a used Rancilio Betsy/Nancy which are just ugly Silvia's, and can often be had for $150-ish.
