Thanks, that's great advice. I couldn't believe how excited I was seeing crema that resembled what I saw in the cafe after de-pressurizing the pf...

Then there was using a burr grinder for the first time...

And...using a tamper for the first time...

Perhaps I'm just easily excited.

You should be is very gratifying to produce espresso that is better than most cafes right away:) I basically acted like my 5 year old does when he gets a present everytime I got new equipment or accessories.

It is great you are getting good results, and yes I get just as excited by a good pull.  I love to watch it come from the naked portafilter.
