None of the timers I have found will fit a three-prong plug, so I haven't tried to use one yet to turn my machine on an hour before I get up. I've also read about timers shutting off or tripping a breaker with the power drawn to get a machine up and running.
Those of you who are successfully using a timer to turn your machine on, what is your setup like? What brand of timer? Are you using a power strip? Three prong to two prong cheater plug? Any issues with this? How important is the grounding prong?

I'm using a digital timer from Westek, which has two grounded outlets (one on each side) and a rechargeable battery back-up. I got mine from Fred Meyer, which I believe also has stores located in the Seattle area. I'm quite sure I paid less than $15 for it on sale and have had zero issues with it. Whatever timer you purchase, just make sure it's rated for heavy duty appliance use (mine is rated for 15A; 1875 watts). Also, when looking for a timer, I intentionally looked for a timer that once plugged in still allowed access to the second plug of the wall receptacle.
