Thanks to everyone that has contributed, this has been helpful to reinforce what I have read. I'm going to take some time and see if I can find a good used machine by christmas, If I dont find anything I may just go get a new silvano from chris (I see they have 2 yr warranty now). this was probably the best thread on the silvano. i guess i have been swayed. i am in the same position ...bezzera or silvano. seems everyone with a silvano is very content. thanks for not getting all coffeegeek-y about the subject.
i don't like when people tell you the only worthwhile machine is a $3000 machine. and tell you to spend 3 X what you wanted to.

Neither, and you don't need to spend anywhere near $3000. Look into the Fiorenzato Briccoleta. If I had to replace my machine tomorrow, I'd simply buy the same machine I have now, and it doesen't hurt that the price is now lower than it's been in the 3 years that I've had mine. I like the Bezzera as well, but the Bric is a well-built machine with the E-61 group and it makes great shots. I picked mine up used about 3 years ago and it's completely cured my upgrade-itis. My unit has a build date of 4/30/04 and it was used in a restaurant before I got it, I've had it on 24/7 since then and, best I can tell, I'm doing the first major service on it now. All the major components seem to be original, even the pressurestat, and this is a machine that's probably been turned on for most of the last 7 years.

Nice price for that machine too.
Bric is 1900 watts - need a 20 amp circuit for that - plus it is overkill for a couple shots a day. I could have gone Wega if I wanted for the price of your Bric - same reason I didn't go Wega is why I wouldn't go Bric. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice and I am sure it will make good espresso, but unless you leave it on 24/7 (any small children? potential for burns there...) the waiting time to heat up is going to be longer than I would care for in the morning and the power bill difference over 7 years time would make the Silvano about half the price of ownership of the Bric.
Not every situation is the same and what is practical in one setting might not make sense in another.
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

Wise words that people forget. Not every situation is the same. A plumb in doesn't work for me nor does a machine with the producing e61. I can imagine burned kids hands and visitors. Plus I do not like the smell of burnt flesh.
