i have a problem with my new VST basket. I was using a Synesso basket before and i would rancilio backflush rubber disc for backflushing. The rubber disc does not fit the new VSt basket, the rubber disc is too small so the water leaks out. If the disc was maybe 1 or 2mm bigger it would fit. The VST is bigger diameter.
Does anyone know a rubber disc little bigger designed to fit VST? I asked local dealer and they said no go, they said just use a blind basket. But i find it very hard to remove the basket and switch them every time, i want to use a disc. i tried to make a disc... it leaked. I emailed VST ppl and no reply.
Just go to the supermarket, hardware store, kitchen store or any other place that sells housewares and find a flexible rubber/plastic sheet, disk, whatever and cut out the size you need.
The rubber disk is really the way the lower priced machines uses because it is less expensive than the blank basket that you should be using. If you are having a hard time removing the basket, have you tried removing the spring?

i put in the HD spring because the basket comes out to easily with regualr spring. reg spring- basket drops out when i knockbox grounds heavy spring- very hard to get out... pry out with a spoon
I use a bar in my knock box and hit the lower 1/3 of the basket on the bar, there is no way for the basket to come out. YMMV!
OH, BTW, I use a naked PF so even if I had a hard spring, it is easy to push the basket out from the bottom. OH and it makes it so much easier to keep clean!

VST baskets were designed for pro use, and I've never seen a pro use one of those rubber disks. I'm pretty sure VST will be designing buggy whips before they get around to rubber backflush disks!
Until that happens, it's not a big deal to slightly modify your heavy spring so the basket comes out easily with a flat blade screwdriver (but stays in under normal use). Unbend it slightly or cut an eighth inch at a time off one or both tips until you get the result you want.
