so, you're using a bottomless or not? Or is it both? If you are and the basket is stuck, you ought to be able to push it out from the bottom. if not, just use the side of another basket (like Randy said) or a screwdriver to pry the basket out. once you get it out, consider taking out the spring, since you're having so much difficulty. It's not really necessary, except to hold the basket in place while you knock out the used puck.
Yeah, you need to take it out to give your handle and the basket a good cleaning.

Yes, I'm using a bottomless PF, the one from Seattle Coffee Gear. The filter basket is stuck, I can't push it up with my thumbs no matter how I try, and I was hesitant to use a screwdriver because I didn't want to damage the chrome. I feel kinda like an idiot.

Wow! I've never heard of that, and certainly, have never had any such difficulty with either of my bottomless handles, no matter which baskets I've put in them.

The commercial retaining springs are a LOT stronger than the ones found in machines designed for home use. The first time you have to dig through a piles of trash and pucks for a basket that was ejected when knocking out a puck you realize why. I can post a photo or possibly a video of how to use another basket to remove one from the portafilter if you need that.

I have used the side of a butter knife to pry the basket up without damage to anything. Yes they can be a bit stiff. I have changed to using the bottomless Pf only so removing a basket isn't a big deal at all, just put your fingers on the back side of the basket and push!

Updates Markarian? I'm really curious if any of these suggestions helped you out. I would imagine you could pop it from the bottom if you pushed hard enough. Then again, I don't own a bottomless PF!

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. We got it out by taping a plastic medicine cap to the basket and hitting it on a table. It came right out and nothing was damaged. The clip is just incredibly stiff. As inconvenient as this is, I still love this PF and would highly recommend it to anyone who is sticking with a Saeco machine.
