Posted Thu Aug 30, 2012, 3:13pm Subject: A tale of two baskets
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was a new 14 gram Nuova Simonelli 58mm double basket, it was a Caravel 14 gram 43.5mm double basket.
Two very different things in a interesting juxtaposition.
Still working on getting complete control over the Ellimatic and have been pulling excellent shots on the Caravel for several years now. So it's too early to make a call. They're quite different. The Caravel is really designed for ristretto shots, the Elli seems more comfortable with a normale.
It's also that I'm using hand grinders with the Caravel and the MD-85 with the Ellimatic, and the grinder makes a big difference in the shot quality. I may, over this holiday weekend, dial in both the conical KyM and the big flat burr MD_85 for the SM El Competidor blend I roasted on Monday and see what the difference is on the Ellimatic.
