could not find a forum which i would guess is more appropriate than this one for equipment. would be grateful if anyone pointed me the way otherwise...
being the extremely lazy person that i am, i can only do so much research, am looking for a good thermos to hold hot liquids, in particular a quantity of about 4 espressos, italian, medium roast brew from a stainless steel bialetti macchinetta. the market seems to focus on a 12 hour heat retention, which would work fine
so far Nissan seems to be the better brand name
my preference is to not use any food related kitchen or other ware made in china as i do not trust the chemical safety issues. and to further my ignorance, not a plastic lining which touches the liquid other than maybe only when dispensing

Could not be happier with my 22 oz. Thermos E5 stainless steel one. If I preheat and pour brewed coffee or americanos into it in the morning, I can nurse it all day. I "decant" my brew into a Bodum double wall 6 oz a splash at a time. Thus, all day I enjoy sips of *hot*, hot, slightly cooling and cooled coffee, with accompanying aromas. Just last week I drank spro that a.m., and I left it sealed past lunch. It could still burn me at 3pm.
My criteria 4 years ago when I bought it:
More than 16 oz (its advertised as 20 oz but holds 22 if maxed)
Needed to fit in my bag/briefcase
Low-tech stopper lid (push buttons all fail after enough use)
No glass. I had one break on me once. No glass.
stay HOT for a long time (obvious).
Got it at Target for $17. Almost every day is: vacpot with cory rod on the stove. Pour into thermos. Once at work, splash it out little by little into the Bodum glass. Nothing but glass, steel, water and coffee. No cloth, no paper, no plastic (except the stopper).
Keeping it clean: weekly or so, put a 1/2 teaspoon of oxyclean powder inside. Pour 20 oz of boiling water in. Set a timer for 30 minutes. Dump, rinse, wipe, and rinse. As shiny and clean as new.

I have a Stanley that i've had for about 25 years. It is the best. It was made in the USA by Alladin. The new ones are not the same. They are made in China and lose their vacuum easily. Once that happens you can feel the. Entire thermos get warm. I got a thermos from REI Co-op. It is their in house brand. I have been very happy with it. It keeps my coffee hot all day. REI also has a very good return policy if you are not happy or if you river have any problems with it.
