I had to replace my part there. http://www.espressoparts.com/S_459?&search_id=1891752 It was stuck open however, it was not leaking. I documented what I did and photos of the broken value. I ordered and got it from espresso parts. See my thread on that.
I would get another hose or shorten it as suggested. Check that valve while you are in there. My machine was supposedly not used very much either when I bought it.
If the tape has bits that break off it is supposed to be bad for the machine. That is why I used goo when I fixed mine. I have no leaking since repair. Take lots of photos so you can put it back together. It really helps.

I ordered that part from Espresso Parts, but it doesn't look like what I'll need. And then strangely, I noticed more leaking when I recently broke the machine out again and trimmed the tube a little bit. What do you guys make of this? click here http://youtu.be/icGWDjo1-9o?hd=1

I am not sure what you want me to tell you... there is a valve up there that is electronically controlled. Tell me what you need to know... I can take photos of mine if it will help you tomorrow.

For what it's worth, my Oscar is full of plumber's tape at every turn. Just last night I had to fix a leak between the 3 Way Valve and the group head. We used plumber's tape and it works like a charm. We used plumber's tape to put a 1-hole Silvia tip on the steam wand, again, it saved the day. NS should just ship these things with a set of wrenches and a few rolls of teflon tape. If it's any consolation, I think these machines, when purchased used, all have problems, so you're not alone. They are fixable. I can't believe how much stupidity and abuse my Oscar has suffered on my part and still keeps on brewing.

Tape works, I have just read goo is recommended because if a tiny bit of tape comes off it can clog a valve or something. Let me know what you need to know about that valve, I removed it and looked at it when I had the replace the safety valve on the boiler on that side.
