I tried opening my machine but that screw is still stuck. We've tried everything to get it out--vice grips, prying at it, pressing it back down, pulling it straight up. It's stuck a few turns up and wedged at an angle. I'd like to look at the interior of the machine, but it won't budge. Any suggestions? My friend who was helping me says the screwhead needs to be dremeled off, but I don't know how that machine goes together inside and if that would even let me take the top off :(

It's the one on the cup warmer, upper left if you're looking at the machine from the front. I'm not sure I'm ever going to get this thing open without cutting the screw out.

I had the same issue (except my stuck screw was on the right side), and my "solution" is not pretty. Out of frustration, I ended up grinding the screw head right off. The damage looks pretty bad, but I just cover it with a cup. Here's a tip though, if you decide to do what I did (disclaimer - attempt at your own risk): do it outside and wear a mask because there's alot of dust and particles you don't want to breath in. cover the water as well and vacuum up the mess.
and here's a tip for every other oscar owner - when you screw the screws back in, it doesn't have to be super super tight. the threads that hold the screws suck

Just got a used Oscar for $275 on craigslist. Had to get it shipped to me from NY and am waiting on the grounds kit (came with pod setup :( Total investment is around $400. I also have a screw on top that just spins and spins. Not quite sure how I'm gonna get it loose.
Anyway, could you all elaborate on the descale process specifically on the oscar. I'd like to descale now before I get my grounds kit in.

nice deal. as for the screw, stick a small flathead screw driver under the head of the screw and give it slight upward pressure while unscrewing it. It'll probably come off. You probably dont need to replace it, it'll be plenty sturdy with one screw unattached.

I had a screw do the same thing. Unfortunately, I had to use a hacksaw to get it off. No amount of gentle guiding, prying, or downright pliers-ing would get it to come out. After the cover came off, I noticed that the actual screw mount was spinning freely in the frame. I only have two screws holding my cover on and it seems to work fine. Nice find, at least you didn't pay $540 like I did for a machine fraught with issues. As far as descaling, definitely check out the video. It's tedious and a pain in the butt, but it's the only way to descale Oscar without taking it apart. Let us know if you have any issues with the Oscar, we've been tending to quite a few lately! It's a great machine, especially for the price.
