I will soon start using the new VBM DD I just purchased.
I was wondering how much heat such a machine generates, especially from the underside of the machine.
The reason I ask is that it will be sitting on a quartz countertop and I read that heat can damage quartz. They say "Quartz may not withstand the direct transfer of heat from pots and pans and other cooking units such as electric frying pans and griddles, and some crock-pots or roaster ovens and heat lamps. Therefore, the use of a hot pad or trivet is always recommended."
So, should I be worried about the heat coming from the bottom of the espresso machine? Should I plan on getting a pad for it to sit on?
An espresso machine gets warm, but it shouldn't be a problem for your countertop, because it's not really hot. You can usually still touch the casing without any risk of getting burnt. Besides, the machine usually has small legs.
