I just purchased a non-working 3 head Nuova Simonelli Aurelia. The water around here has low mineral content, but the machine is about 6 years old, and I don't know its history. I'm sure that this will be a learning experience, but I've been inside a couple of espresso machines with good results. I'm definitely mechanically inclined, and I have strong electronics testing and trouble shooting capability. I figure I can get the machine up and running - since the primary problem seems to be electronic.
Before just tearing down the entire machine, I was hoping that I could do minor surgery to determine the condition of the guts. Are there some particular areas of this machine that are prone to scale? If so, what areas of this machine could I inspect to indicate the condition of the rest of the machine internals?

look at the boiler and temp probe. I would assume a 6 year old machine that got used for 6 years would need descaling. If it got used for 6 months in stored maybe not.
