I've had my Gaggia Baby for a few months right and have not had much luck with frothing milk. It was purchased refurbished from wholelattelove a few months ago. Once I pull a shot, the machine no longer produces adequate steam to froth milk. The flow of steam is so reduced such that I can hold my hand under the nozzle. Here are some sceneraios:
Power on the machine from cold, wait 5 mins to warm up and press steam button. Wait 10s after seeing steam indicator light, and open steam knob. From there it produces adequate steam for about a minute.
Power up from cold, with 5 mins to warm up and pull espresso. Switch on steam button, wait 10s after seeing steam indicator light and open steam knob. Virtually no steam.
Any ideas? Is this symptomatic of a faulty steam thermostat? My one guess is that it is only builds while it reaches the it's operating temp after being powered on. Once that steam is depleted or it doesn't seem to produce more.

It definitely sounds like you have a faulty steam stat. There are directions for testing it at the Gaggia Group (see my signature). And/or just ask WLL to send you a new one.
Yours would not be the first refurbed machine WLL has shipped out with a bum steam stat...
After testing, there was no steam after powering up, immediately switching to steam mode, and waiting 20 mins to warm up. This suggests a faulty steam thermostat. I hope WLL can help me out to get it fixed.

I see that you are now a member at GUG. Welcome. WLL should just send you a new steam stat; but if they don't, source it somewhere else since you don't want to encourage bad behavior. Good luck.
