Saw this on TV. I suppose this would be considered an espresso machine. They said on the news that it cost over $11,000.00 Hope its not old news here in the forum.

There's an HB thread on this machine, which is actually for brewed coffee as opposed to espresso (despite appearances): Click Here (www.home-barista.com)

I'm not a fan of the design/approach so far.

I found a picture of one of their early development models.  As people on HB stated, it looks like an semiauto aeropress:

The mechanical advantage is something around X1.6 so it is not designed to create a great amount of water pressure, so think of it as a lever-operated, PID-controlled Aeropress. At about the cost of FOUR Bunn Trifectas, which would you choose for your coffee shop?

I'll say this.. they may be well respected engineers and it may even make great coffee, but they should have hired a designer to help them with the design... both prototypes are ugly.

I do like the QR code idea though.

They look very sharp edged; the metal handle may be sturdy in a vertical motion but looks like it would flex quite a bit horizontally.  Maybe this is a non issue because there isn't as much lever pressure involved compared to an espresso lever machine.

If it really took Apple and NASA engineers to design this thing and this was the best they could have come up with,
I'd say that this is really sad. The least they could do for the price was put in an electric motor or a hydraulic ram
connected to a rotary pump or something.

I think that this is an excellent example of why technology doesn't always necessarily match the needs of an industry.

Maybe I don't see it, but IMHO, this device has absolutely no commercial value whatsoever, especially when there are
so many other things on the market which work so much better.

Thanks for the video link.  The prototypes are a bit rough; I'm interested in seeing how a finished product works.  I have not been able to find any vids of that yet.
