I have just bought Isomac Venus and I need help or some advise already at the beginning. When I make espresso, the pressure is between 13 and 14 bars, which is too much, right? However the coffee is only dripping!! What should I change? Did I do something wrong, or should I set up the machine??
It sounds to me like you are choking the machine. Try using a coarser grind until you get 2 fluid ounces in about 25 seconds. Getting two 1 oz shot glasses will help.
I suspect, once you coarsen up the grind and get better flow, your manometer might read correctly.
I also have an Isomac Venus and actually it came set around 11-12 bar, which they recommend. If you are seeing 13-14 bar with only a drip, then I would adjust your grinder setting to slightly coarser. I can get some really nice ristrettos at that pressure.
I would work on grind adjustment first, before adjusting. It can take some practice, but I think you are really going to enjoy the Venus once you get your grinder and dosing method to your liking.
However, if you are curious there are some discussions here and in HB community.
hey Qualin, no worries, :) the 9 bar pressure seems to be more in line with most machines out there so a good thought there, Venus is just a little odd in that detail.
the grind suggestion seemed right to me, and I have also heard of folks who turn their Venus pressure to 9.5 with much success.
If the machine is choked (which sounds like you're getting) the pressure reading is going to be showing roughly what the OPV (over pressure valve) is set to, since the coffee puck is, for all intents and purposes, impenetrable at that fine a grind. With the proper grind to get a shot flowing at the right rate, the pressure will drop to normal ranges. Even so, it sounds like you might need to get the OPV adjusted down just a a little bit as it should open between 11 and 12 bars, if that's what the manufacturer recommends.
