For $2K, I would make room on my counter for that machine and no I would not need to watch and see what the quality is, nope, LS does not make junk, none that I am aware of!

Sure, it's shiny and everything, but...
More electronics means more things to go wrong and less stuff that you can repair yourself. It means that downtime can be greatly extended and there are fewer workarounds to get a machine back in service.

Right now the v2 is $2300. If that machine has a timer which it probably does i bet it will go for $2700. I emailed Chris with a question whether i can retrofit that display in my V2. His Response.......

That's ridiculous. This machine has very little electronics. All the electronics (1 triac and 1 control board) are housed in a black box and the design has proven to be extremely reliable under 1000s of user hours. The LCD unit looks completely self-contained just like the old LED panel. IF it ever broke, you'd simply swap it out.

Yes. That seems about right. My guess would be $2599.
The front with the new LCD and cutout for the new steam knob look different enough that a retrofit would be difficult. The control board is likely different too. But a totally different machine? I doubt that. Just too many obvious similarities to the old machine.

You're talking to a guy with a $5k digital mixing board that's a paperweight because a "easily swapped out" LCD panel, that's proprietary and without conveniently hackable interface, died and the manufacturer no longer has that part (nor will they be getting any more, since their supplier no longer makes it). Forgive me if I don't trust glitz over easily user-repairable function.
If the machine truly has "very little electronics", it's just a marketing gimmick, and probably not worth the extra money for the eye candy. If it does have special electronics that are central to its function (and that function actually results in a better cup), it's still a major accident waiting to happen a few years down the road when specialized proprietary parts are no longer available.

I don't get your argument. How is the LCD panel any worse than the old LED panel?
I've heard of the buttons getting stuck or LEDs burning out on the older S1 LED panel too. They just swap out the panel which is attached to the control box with only simple harness connector. Let's see someone try that on a Breville!
Ever try and find a simple on/off switch for a "totally manual" '67 Cremina? Good luck. How is this any different?

I can rig a switch. It may not be pretty, but I can make it work. If you have a UI that depends on a screen for navigation through functions, if it goes out and there's no replacement part, you're hosed. Unless you're handy with a surface mount soldering station, a decompiler and a logic probe.
Now if LS open-sources the code and hardware, then publishes all the interface specs, that would be something else entirely.
