Hello. I have a Quick Mill Verano which is about a year old. I tool apart the e61 head and noticed a little bit of scale starting to build up, so I figure it's time to descale. But I can find a procedure. Should I just remove the plumbing from the main water supply and let the machine suck up the solution from a jug? Or does it need pressure?

Hi. Hope this helps. I have a Vetrano and back flush by using one teaspoon of cleaner in a blind porta filter inserted in the group head. I alternate the pump for about 8 seconds on and 8 seconds off. Rinse off the blind porta filter and repeat back flushing by alternating the pump without cleaner in the porta filter. Discard your first espresso shot.

I put a "T" fitting in my tygon tubing. I then put cutoff valves from each direction and had an open line. I simply fed from a 1 gallon jug of mixed citric acid periodically. I had no issues with this. You will just have to hide the line under the machine when not in use. Its a one time investment, and you always have easy access to descaling.

Thanks for your post - this is very helpful. So you are saying the machine will simply suck up the solution from the jug? Does it require pressure (like my main water line) to run the pump?

Most rotary pumps can lift water and if at the same level as the machine most vibe pumps can work from a water tank without pressure but may not be able to lift water very high so yes for the purpose of descaling, you should be able to just use an open container to hold the solution provided it is at the same level as the machine, in most cases.
I didn't look to see what pump you have but you should be OK.
You will need a bit of water to flush the system out after descaling so be prepared to do this. I have found that, FOR ME, my machine requires about 4 to 5 changes of water through the boiler until I am OK with what is being discharged from the machine.
Do not forget to run water through the HX system as well as the boiler, this means you will also need to flush the HX system as well as the boiler. The whole process isn't hard but it can take a bit of time.
I am very lucky, my machine is designed to use it's own internal water tank OR to be plumbed in with only the switching of a valve and a push of a button, both built into the machine. A T system can work for you as outlined above or you can remove the water supply from the home and use the same plumbing to the machine and a stand alone tank to do the same thing.
