So I was hunting a starter machine for my dad's friend on CL and it looked to be a steal: $80 for a recent revision SIN006! Panarello, but whatever. Anyway, brewed a decent shot and then went to test the steam wand by hitting the switch and waiting for the boiler to heat. During this, I decided to remove the PF and clean it out. The PF shot off the group with such force as to knock the drip tray out and sprayed coffee everywhere. In all my espresso adventures, this was the most spectacular mess I've ever seen. Turns out the steam was building up through the group head but not out the wand. There was literally no pressure whatsoever out of the wand, but it just kept hissing through the group. I guessed it was a bad silicone valve.

The guy was so flustered and embarrassed that he didn't want to sell it to me. I was going to offer him half and get the part, since I've changed one out before and the machine did make good espresso (as good as one can get with a pressurized PF, at least).
