I think that it is amazing that La Spaziale is listening to the Coffee Geek crowd and catering to them, which IMHO is a downright amazing thing. I can't think of any other manufacturer of equipment which does that.
I think it is nice that they've listened and addressed the shortcoming with the external timer. I wonder if this machine will have pre-infusion capabilities and if it is plumbed in only? (It looks like it is.)
Sir, it's CHRIS who goes to these companies (like QuickMill, Alex, La Spaz, etc and pretty much tells them what HE wants in his machines to sell them to his customers. Chris has ALWAYS had his customers backs. I'd wager MOST companies would rather not make these changes if not asked.
As a songwriter/ music producer with a studio, I have a good idea (I believe) where George (GV) is coming from. I've invested in music software, often hundreds of $$, and when the next version of the Mac OS comes out, the company says "we're not supporting OS xxxx. (Please, no anti Mac barbs here, as I'll stack up my Mac Pro 8 core 20 gig ram monster with anyone's PC here. LOL)
On the other side of this discussion...(and it is a discussion, bravo to all who have responded with CG civility so far...whoops haven't read to the end as yet) I can attest PERSONALLY that Chris would NOT be bringing BLING to customers UNLESS there were some real useful, even significant upgrades to the machines OS. OK, maybe the espresso won't be appreciably "better" in the cup (we can't know that yet), but perhaps for those who love the La Spaz's specs, design, and features, the ability to make their drinks to their preference CONSISTENTLY is a worthwhile attribute. For that matter, doing it while looking good has never been against the law. However, IANAL. LOL
EDIT...you SEE? I should have read the thread ALL the way first. Bad form, my apologies. Thanks for posting, Chris. HOPE you and yours are safe tonight. My thoughts and prayers to those in the line of Sandy's ire.

Is this machine worth the extra $200? I actually like the lever for steam on the mini better than the knob on the Dream. I want to buy my first espresso machine soon and am kind of torn between the mini, Dream T and Duetto....

Well... you won't disappointed with any of those three machines, they will all produce consistent results in the cup. So you hit up the extra factors that are important to you: Looks (all three have different styles); cost (the mini and duetto 2 are the same price. 500 more gets you the Dream and the Duetto 3. Dream T is a bit less that the dream. is E61 important or do you prefer a saturated group? is 58 important or are you OK with 53? DO you prefer having the option to plumb or not? or are you happy choosing one or the other (mini or vivaldi, dream or dream T). are you set on a rotary pump or is a vibe OK? built in preinfusion or optional (mini and dreamT)?
The reason I did not opt for the dream is that although it is essentially the Mini with a PID and improved programming, is that I did not want to be one of the people to sort out the early problems. I wanted a machine that was absolutely tried and true. Price wise, the costs are the same between the Mini and the Dream T if you include the ridiculously expensive timer (200$). Idrinkcoffee included it for free so it did not become a factor. I also seriously considered the Duetto 2 (400$ more that the mini in canada). But at CCS, the mini and the duetto 2 are the same price at 2000!!! That's quite interesting and may have swayed me towards the Duetto 2.
Preinfusion necessary.... maybe not. But I am convinced that preinfusion aids in consistency and reduces channeling. I opted for the preinfusion chamber.
Just some thoughts because I was just considering those same machines.

Good points all. The shoe is on the other foot with me being a Duetto owner that very very nearly went with a La Spaziale. Preinfusion is not strictly necessary and though it works a little differently on my plumbed in Duetto it's something I would not want to be without. Same goes for plumbing it in, which is prerequisite for manually controlling the pre infusion on Duetto, I could live with running on the tank but would not want to. I am sure i would have been perfectly happy if my had chosen a La Spaziale.
You know those people that want to tell you how to raise your kids but have none of their own? That is how i feel when someone with a kitchen appliance tells me how the merits or dis-merits of my machine or how to use it.

Thanks.. Since this will be my first machine, Im not really sure about the difference in sizes of the portafilter... Looks like I do need the preinfusion. I really dont want to plumb in. It just wont work in my kitchen. Also, good point about the Dream being a new unit and working out the kinks. I was wanting PID. Hmmmm...
