so you recommend 19g instead of the 18g? froth here you mean the crema? im clues in weighting the shot, how? or perhaps i should just check the end of the crema to hit the 2oz line and not to stop the shot with the top of the crema hitting the 2oz line
i want to eliminate other factors, i will try to do the temp surf with the exisiting setup that i have, i'll see if it can cure it, this slipped my mind as i was pulling my hair, thanks for the reminder
aha, ok i will take that, i will weight now, yes ive noticed the crema when i was experimenting with the age of the beans. so if it doesnt hit the 2oz weight i will tweak grind setting to maintain time? or same grind but pull longer, but if its 30sec max then it has to be grind setting?
The weight is just a starting point for tweaking your pull to get the taste you want. For ristretto, you want 1:1 ratio with grind weight, 2:1 for normal, and 3:1 or 4:1 for a long, all with different extraction times. If all you ever pull are 25 second normals, start with a goal of 2:1 and work up or down from there depending on the taste.
At the end of the day, it's all about the flavor.

oh no, ristretto, hehehe, thats what the local roaster was saying, oops im just starting to here, i pre weight the beans, does weight change when grinded? is this ratio oz:grams?
19 grams of ground coffee should get you 38 grams of espresso in 25 seconds from first drop. That will read 32 seconds on the BDB timer since it counts the pre-infusion time before the first drop comes out.
