Hello all,
I have been starting to play with my new toy (La Pavoni Europiccola) but have only been able to get average shots. I am still learning (steep learning curve) how to manipulate the machine but was wondering if my cheap Porlex grinder was one of the (many) culprits? Can one expect a good (not a god shot, but a better than average, bar quality) espresso shots with a Porlex grinder. Is there any way one can improve the default grind delivered by the Porlex? (cannot afford at the moment a fancy grinder)

There's no reason why a Porlex shouldn't be able to give you a good espresso grind. If you are only having a couple of espressos in the morning and have the time to grind, there's no pressing need for you to upgrade. Most (all?) Porlex models are adjustable, so you should play with the fineness of the grind. I used a similar Turkish hand mill for several years before my consumption rose to the level where a motor powered grinder seemed justified.

thanks johnboddie. My concern was more focused on the quality of the grind than its debit, though. I have read on another forum that the Porlex mini was not good enough to produce a good espresso out of the La Pavoni. Anybody using this grinder for espresso making?
