Hey fellow geeks. I was planning on ordering my very first espresso machine, after very extensive research, as I decided on the Gaggia Classic. I am also getting the Baratza Vario grinder. Basically, my main question, or concern if you will, is that does the Classic come with an unpressurized basket stock, or will I have to order a 58mm unpressurized basket seperately? And also will you critique me on my plan for my first setup. Thanks for reading.

The classic I just purchased came with three baskets- Two pressurized baskets (single and double) and the regular unpressurized "double" basket. I'm assuming this is the way they are currently packaged unless you get an older machine.
As far as your setup- It sounds great to me, I had the same thing planned. I happened to find a Mazzer Mini brand spanking new for $500 at 1st-line so I got that instead of the Vario- but the Vario is a solid grinder and will go well with the Classic.
Personally, I think the Classic is a great value for your money. It's a beautiful machine that will make great espresso without breaking the bank.

Thank you so much for the input. I'm happy I won't have to but another basket. Now, for my next question. 99.9% sure that I will be purchasing the machine from WholeLatteLove, and I was just wondering if purchasing refurbished is worth the extra $50 dollar markdown? Thanks again.

The machines are pretty simple really, and any refurb that took place likely just means replacing a part. Easy enough. Probably has no long term affect.
That said, any machine refurbed will have been out in the field - maybe for a day, maybe for a year. Who knows what a previous owner did to it.
I'd be looking for a great deal to do refurb on one of these. I dont' say that for everything, often i think you find a good bargain that way. But w/ new machines going on sale this time of year, specially when packaged w/ grinders, there's not much need to gamble on the refurb.
