Anyone using the in tank rocket water filter. If yes, have you taken a TDS reading to see if it actually lowers the TDS in your water. I have mine installed in my new Giotto Evoluzione and it doesn't seem to lower my very hard water here in southern California. My tap water is 350 ppm.

It won't change the reading on a TDS meter, because it's an Ion Exchange resin.....works by exchanging calcium Ions for Sodium Ions. So Calcium Carbonate which causes lime scale, becomes Sodium Carbonate, which doesn't scale. As it's a 1 for 1 exchange of a conduction Ionic solution, the TDS remains virtually unchanged.
Now that's not to say in-line softeners are great as I imagine they become exhausted pretty quickly, but are easily regenerated using a salt solution and then a rinse through with fresh water.

You would not have any easy way of knowing unless you tested the water with a proper water hardness test kit (ones that work with water softners). However if you recharge it once every 2 weeks your probably going to be OK, but it depends on the hardness of your incoming water.
As for the OP comment re you can't recharge it.....I assure you, you can.
