In addition to information overload, I'm shopping for a machine that's technically for my wife, so it has to be relatively simple and she has to like it. In the end, I went to a large retailer and bought the BDB. If I hate it, or she hates it, or it sucks or it breaks down, I have the option to return it. That made pulling the trigger much, much easier for me.
That is a good point, but it moves me away from the BDB because I don't want to spend full price on one. So maybe that is my answer if I am only willing to get the Breville at a discount I should pass and get what I really want which is....
OK. First of all, there is nothing wrong with an E61 group head. It is a great design. Proof positive? It is still in use after 50+ years. But does anyone truly believe that there have been no improvements in the design over the past half-century?
Virtually every manufacturer -- if they aren't using an E61/E61 clone -- uses a proprietary design based on the E61 group. The Bezzera BZ07 uses a thermostatically controlled group head. It is very stable, from a thermal perspective, and that's a good thing . . . .

FWIW, I used one of the ubiquitous 20% off coupons at BBB. They took it despite Breville being listed in the exclusions.
Honestly, this isn't the machine that I want, but this whole adventure started out because my wife asked for an espresso machine for Christmas. The BDB is the most user friendly of the machines I considered, so I got it. I'm really hoping that she'll get comfortable with the process and we can eventually upgrade to something more shiny and Italian.

If she likes the cooking process I think she will probably like it. If she doesn't like to bother with steps in order like for baking then she might not.....

The decision has been made. Not by me as I was stuck, I had my wife choose based on appearance alone and she chose the Cuadra. I ordered one from First line along with a bottomless PF and a fancy tamper. It won't be delivered in time for Christmas but better late than never. Hopefully the Vario I ordered earlier in the week will be here soon enough. I have the say it was pleasure dealing with first line they were very helpful. Thanks to everyone for all the help with the machine choice. I will be using the time waiting to read up on how to use it all.
