I have a 3 year old Quickmill Anita and have always had it on a timer to shut down at night and heat up a couple hours before I get up. I also recently replaced the pump and the seat inside the expansion valve. Since then, my first steam of the day produces about a half cup of water/steam mixture before I can start steaming. The second cup and subsequent cups are all fine. As an experiment, I removed the timer so the machine stayed hot all night and the steamer was back to normal (an insignificant amount of water). Anyone know what's going on here?

i'm pretty sure this has to do with the wand and other steam valve parts not being up to temperature. The same thing happens even on the highest end commercial machines.
i always do a several second steam flush before i start pulling my espresso/steaming

But what doesn't make sense is that I didn't have this problem for 3 years and now I do. It has always been on a timer and the first steam was just a tiny bit of water.

My water is processed through a water softener, then a charcoal filter, then through a reverse osmosis cycle and yet another set of filters to remove all minerals including calcium. Believe me, there is no scaling in my machine. It must be something else.
