Did my monthly backflushing today on my Classic & noticed as I was cleaning around the shower screen area-that when I pressed in the middle of the shower screen, it moved slightly. Now, I know it is not "rocket science", but my husband removed the shower holding plate a few months back when descaling the machine to clean it. I only drink a one 2-3 shot cappuccino per day--so descale every 3 months, but take the holding plate out 2 times per year to clean that. He installed it back in. I never noticed this before, and I don't know if when pressing on the shower screen area that it will "give" slightly or if it shouldn't move at all. Help anyone? Thanks.
Someone please? I know the Gaggia Classic is a popular home machine, so hoping someone can just press where the shower screen is screwed in & tell me if there is any "give". It moves a little, and I don't know if this is normal or not. HELP. and thanks.
never used a Gaggia before, but when I had both my Silvias the shower screen did flex slightly when I'd push on it with fingers. My Duetto shower screen does as well.
Lovely..... I'm getting normal coffee flow out of the group head. Now I'm really concerned that when my husband put the shower holding plate back in after the descaling that maybe it wasn't put back 100%. I don't know what to do here. I wish some more Gaggia folks would chime in. Maybe it is okay if it flexes to a degree. I don't know if it did before, so I have nothing to base on.
I tried tightening the screw that holds the shower screen on last night. I don't know what my problem is, but I could not seem to tighten it more. My husband was able to tighten it tonight & now it does NOT flex. Yikes, am I a weakling or an idiot?
When I chemical backflush I do it with the screw out, screen off. Residue can get there. When cleaned mine very easily screws in until snug and no screen movement. I also do my cleaning and removal and re-install while it is warm/hot and that may let the screw turn more easily.
I always remove the screen when descaling too. Thing is I have no clue why the screen would have loosened since the last descaling since my husband screws the screen back in & it is tight enough when he does it. The screen was screwed in tightly. It's not due to be descaled until the end of this month, so how could this screen screw start to loosen just from making espresso? I don't get it...
Just to clarify, I was talking backflush with detergent to remove coffee oils and residue, not descale, though I would also remove for descale. Sounds like you have fixed it and can just check it in a day or two.
I think that the dish shape of the screen actually very slightly slightly tensions the screw just before the screw hits bottom so not sure why it would loosen. Hope that my description makes sense.
