There is 2 3/4" from the tray to the spout. The first week or so this took some getting used to but now I don't think about it anymore, even tilting my 4oz shot glass to get it under the double spout has stopped being anything but routine.

Sorry for butting in but I can speak for the DII and it's not been an issue for me at all. 95 percent of what I make goes straight into 2oz or 6oz cap cups no problem. More height would just mean more splashing. There is always a shot glass on top for the occasional long black.
Removing the spout from the PF would give aprroximately 3 1/4" and a bottomless 4 1/8" clearance. My coffee mugs are 4 3/4" tall, they fit under the Oscar with the drip tray in the lowest position and the spout removed or a naked PF but it was easier to use a shot glass anyway. The only problem I see will the Duetto and larger cups is if one weighs their shots but even this is solved with the proper scale and cup size.
I snagged a couple of these scales last year when Mark posted in the Christmas gift article and they work really well. They are thin, can handle tare on most cups/shot glasses, accurate (enough) and pretty darn cheap. Scale and spouts do get a little tricky you can kind of see it in a picture on this thread. Here
Yes i have a reason for leaving SCG off my list, yes it is my opinion, yes it is subjective as opinions are by definition, no don't start a flame war because you disagree.

cups pretty much covered already, but I'll chime in anyways :) I use the double walled stainless Frabosk ones offered on 1st-line (all three sizes). The cap cups just fit under the spouts on my DII with a spouted pf, and the latte cups fit nicely under the bottomless pf, but you have to tilt them to get them under spouts.
. Always remember the most important thing is what ends up in your cup!
