Recently bought a used Unic Pony Espresso machine and am currently in the process of ordering the ground coffee kit as it is presently set up for esse pods.
A bit scaled up at first with impaired water flow, but she descaled nicely. This is a sweet machine. Dual 1 liter heavy brass boilers individually electronically temp controlled. The intrashot brew temp was completely stable over 2 ounces on a blank pull. Within 1 degree C! Though a rotary pump would have been nice, I guess there isn't space for one. And I just hate that teflon steam wand it came with.
I would like to be able to change the set brew temp and am wondering if anybody out there knows enough about this machine; how to set the temp or whether that is at all possible to reprogram.
If it can't be done, I guess I might have to put a PID on this?

Just an update on my Unic Pony, in case anybody else is in the same situation as I was in.
I did find the programming procedure for changing brew and steam boiler temps. It can be changed in 1 degree C increments. That and the big all copper 1 liter brew boiler makes for very very consistent intra shot temps.
I've also converted this with a grounds coffee kit ( very easy conversion ) and now its my main machine. :)

Hi there, I also have recently converted my Pony to Grounds, and am interested to know if you changed the steam wand? I saw one at Click Here (www.easypods.com) - is this what you were converting to?

I have not ordered the steam wand, but was eyeing it. I am sure it would work really well.
I got my hands on some engineering plastic and just changed the tip at the end of the teflon steam wand. Had it machined and I drilled 3 holes in it.
I get more speed and swirl now. The original tip had too many holes that gave out a whole lot of steam at a lower speed. Not enough to make good foam, and heated up the milk too fast.

thanks for the heads up Alfonso. As an aside, I had tried the opposite, and 'cleaned up the holes in the plastic with a 1.5mm drill bit, and now I have too much steam.... Can you recall what diameter you used for the three holes, and what type of engineering plastic this is? Thanks, Peter

I asked for teflon. When they didn't have it, they gave me an engineering plastic with comparable temp. resistance. Dont really know exactly what kind of plastic, but it holds up well though.
I used a 1/16 drill bit for the holes. I reckon that would be about 1.6 mm . 3 or 4 holes with that bit should be right. Still doesn't do microfoam as nice as the steel wands though. The big round plastic tip doesn't pull in air as smoothly.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting getting some of this: http://www.dotmar.com.au/products/ptfe/ptfe_main.htm Apparently they can turn it up - hope they can thread it as well. Regarding the microfoam, maybe it could be different with a square end (instead of rounded), with the holes pushing steam out along the axis of the wand? If the price is right from Dotmar, I may try both configurations. Regards, Peter
