i have the Silvia and standard dry gauge was fine. maybe a bad seal of the PF could cause some jumping a bit? if a little air is escaping when hitting high pressures, it could cause some release of pressure, but a PPFFFTTTTT sound should be coming from the PF seal i would think. I dont think those gauges are sensative enough to record the small variations of pressure from the pumps. I would suspect a bad gauge and/or seal issue
I think you guys nailed it. No matter how hard I tighten the portafilter, I still get a few drips from the group gasket area when the gauge is connected. The drips seem to coincide with the degree of jumping that I'm getting. I'll have to try it on another portafilter, or maybe it's time to change the group gasket again.
I have tape on the gauge and reducer coupling connections, but the leak is from above at the group. The threading is different on my e61 portafilter, so I can't test the gauge on it. It's almost certainly the group gasket though.

In short, the Bezzera factory claims that smaller vibratory pumps need to be adjusted to a higher pressure than larger rotary pumps. I.E., they set the vibe pumps in home machines to 11 Bar and the Rotary pumps in Commercial machines to 9 Bar.
This setup does work perfectly on the Rancilio Audrey and Silvia as others reported. After changing the group gasket the dry gauge worked flawlessly, with just a bit of fluctuation at the highest point of pressure (10.9 bars).
