I have an old gaggia portafilter sitting in my garage. It was without handle so today I decide to make one so I can make then a naked portafilter. Here is the pic of it, when its finished I will post the other ones.
It was a straight foward procedure, moderate skills necessary to do it and also many tools required.
Yeah, it takes about 5 hours to do that handle. I dont have woodworking equipment. The only thing I have is an air DA grinder, and with that I sanded a square piece of wood ( here in Puerto Rico its called Caoba, but I thing that is called also small leaf oak) to give it that shape.
Also, the portafilters are hard to find, I have verified on ebay but they are too expensive, so the price of the Pf and the handle will be high and maybee more expensive that buying a commercial product.
But after all I think that I can try to make one or two more
