I finally got all the parts I needed and got my new to me Oscar plumbed tonight and turned it on to allow it to heat up. Well it did warm up a little but doesn't seem like it is real hot. I opened the steam valve when I turned it on in order to vent the boiler as it heated up, but I never got any steam out of the steam wand. It did have a few drops of water off the tip of the steam wand. The steam wand never got even remotely warm to the touch. The heater light does cycle on and off. I pulled water through the group head and the temperature was only about 125 F. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know the oscar well, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but... You said "I finally got the Oscar plumbed", does this mean it used to be a pour over and it started having an issue after plumbing it in? If it doesn't know that it has unlimited water and believes the reservoir to be empty, it won't fill the boiler and won't heat up. You need to let it know that it has unlimited water, in whatever way the Oscar senses its reservoir. Could be a probe to short to ground or something. Someone who knows the oscar can tell you exactly what.

SStones, if the Oscar senses it doesn't have water it won't run the pump at all, so I don't think that's the issue. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to run water through the group.

Let me clarify. It is a direct connect model. I was waiting to get the correct fitting to hook the machine to the water line. It does not appear as though there is any problem with water getting to the machine.

Come to think of it, that really does sound like his issue, Helen. If the element were bad, it would simply not warm up at all. The Pstat being out of adjustment or bad would just cause it to turn off way too early. Check to see what kind of PStat you have, Tijo. The big, black one the size of your fist is made by Sirai, and is easily adjustable with many turns to achieve good pressure. The smaller ones (the size of a golfball) are from Mater and are extremely sensitive, so you have to be careful not to overadjust them.

I opened the hood when I first brought Oscar home and know that I have the Sirai PStat. From reading other information here I wondered if this might be my issue but being the newbie I am was kind of looking for confirmation. I am unable to tinker with it tonight but will tomorrow and will report back on any progress. Thanks
