Hello, i have managed to install on my gaggia classic the rancilio silvia's V1-2 steam wand which is perfect, the only minus is the tip which has only one hole and to make perfect microfoam the 4 holes are essential for this kind of steamwand, is there anyone knows if can i find in the market a tip with four holes or maybe if someone knows how to diy? Thank you in advance

I also have a Classic with the V1 steam wand. I find it reasonable for steam. Where did you get this information?

I have some concern that 4 holes might bleed off the steam a bit fast for the Classic to keep up. Though not the Classic specific, there are a few threads about plugging holes.

The single hole wand seemed to work for the Silvia for 2 generations. I have not seen tips to fit V1.

Are you getting enough steam pressure? You may need to keep the temperature up. I use a PID and that can keep the temperature up more easily as I control the on and off as opposed to the OEM steam stat. Below, temerature vs pressure.

A little more info to get to 4 holes. You can convert to the V3 wand with either the whole valve, or the wand and a machined part. Click Here (coffeegeek.com) That also has a single hole, but here is the 4 hole that fits the V3. http://www.espressoparts.com/R_1261 The note below the part says that it does not fit V1-2, and will fit V3, but that the steam would probably exhaust so fast that it may not work well.

No tips for V1-2 are available, and a note about multiple holes on the V3, or multiple holes for Silvia, and probably Gaggia. Just found this http://www.espressoparts.com/SteamWandTips

Hello, thank you for all the information!! i have managed to buy the 3/8 to 1/8 male fitting thru ebay on a plumbers products seller at £1.80 and will see how it will work the M10 tip with four holes which i have bought...i said are essential 4 holes as when i use the commercial gaggia machine at hotel where i work the microfoam is perfect and very easy to make it and not noisy as it is at home, maybe i just want too much from my classic gaggia? But will see how will itwork with 4 holes..im optimist will be better...thank you and please if you can give me advices for how to make perfect microfoAm with classic gaggia rancilio steam wand will be really appreciated...

I think that the steam output will not be kept up with by the Classic, but we can all find out. It would be great if it works better.

Steam with the Rancilio wand, a couple of sites that helped me with the one hole tip. Hopefully useful to you.

The "PID" is a temperature controller in a box and is able to replace the bimetal thermostat(s). Bimetal brew and steam thermostats have a large temperature range, dead band, and the actual brew or steam temperature stabilizes in that range. You then try to figure out how to use the machine and keep it at the best temperature. If you have a machine and the brew stat has just clicked off, then you brew, you will be inputing cold water from your reservoir to the brew tank and cooling the brew water. If you could start the brew just before the brew stat turned off the element, the it would be hot and heat would continue to input as the cold water kept the stat from reaching the "off" temperature.

You set the temperature on a temperature controller. It you use the Proportional, Integral, and derivative algorithm function then you add controls to damp the temperature change to stop over and undershoot or temperature swing, hysteresis.

Short version, is that with a PID controller device you can pick an idle temperature for the machine. You do not have to understand the math and science of it well to use it. You can also easily move the temperture a degree or two to suit the collee and your taste. Without the PID, you will need to learn to "surf" the temperature by watching the on and off of the brew lights and probabily flipping on and off of the steam switch to add heat.
