Hard to tell. If there is heat then the coil is probably ok. If it pulses it is probably that 6 dollar part. I would estimate replacing the pump 50 seems like they only last 3-4 years and clean it and replace the plumbed in parts. If it is parts only I would think 350 is a bit high as you can often get a working one at 500. I would think 200-300 would be a better parts price.
Make him take the top off and show photos of the guts. If it is not rusted to hell I would think it would be worth 200.

]]]]]He sent me photos of the inside. The insulation looks rough and there is a bit of green in there.
He also admitted to not knowing much about espresso machines (that makes two of us). He held the water line up to the running faucet while testing the machine. Perhaps that could be part of the reason he didn't have a good result?
Guess I'm gambling that the only fault with the machine is user error.

Wow. Thanks for the feedback, Plindy. It's just what I need to decide not to buy this machine. Shipping would cost $233. Add machine cost + the minimum repairs listed below and I'm approaching the $600 - 700 range. On to the next one.

Local is always better, you can see what you are buying. However it doesn't look like 700$-800 to me. Anything under $500 to get the machine and to get it working and you got yourself a deal.
Wait is 233 shipping and machine or shipping only?

The overseas shipping sucks. I don't know how the londinium guys are doing it so cheaply I think they are shipping theirs to the US for like 50$. I think he is going to have to wait till he finds one local or get a relative to send him one. I guess he has access to 110 power....
