it was an Anita 2B, which looked like the Anita but it had all the guts of the quick mill QM67 and was a floor demo model, i guess it was the promo for the QM67, but at 1300, that is 600 off, and 200 off the price of the Anita

If you live in Oregon why not visit Clive Coffee? They're located in Portland, have pretty much sell the same machines as SCG and have their own showroom as well. Plus I don't think you'd have to pay taxes in Oregon but you'd have to pay the 9.5% tax if you picked up the item in person at SCG. If you do buy from SCG you might as well just spot out the machine you like and then just order it online to avoid the absurd tax.

Temp Surfing Question
After reading everything again about the different machines and the heat exchange machines versus the double boiler machines - I do not exactly understand what temp surfing would mean
So compare the Anita to the Andreja Premium to the QM67
Does temp surfing me the recovering time from pulling a shot to pulling a second shot? Does it mean from the time you steam to the time you can pull a shot? Or is that only with a single boiler the heat exchange machine you will not have to temp surf
If I am entertaining and pull 4 double shots ouf ot he machine as well as steam will I have a lot of downtime on any of the machines I have listed?

You live in NY, which is where Chris Coffee is located. You're considering a machine which Chris Coffee designed. Yet, to avoid a slight charge on tax, you're going to buy the machine from a company who is on the other side of the country?
You do know that Chris Coffee supplies Clive with their machines(well,not the breville, and maybe not the GS/3), and your machine will likely ship to you from Chris Coffee anyway?
What if you need to send the machine in for repairs? Would you rather ship a machine across the country, or somewhere in the same state?
How far are you from Albany? Why not go pick up the machine yourself? Ive bought three machines and two grinders, along with countless other random orders, all from Chris Coffee, and for the major purchases, I went and picked up the stuff myself. You can also make an appt with one of their sales members to see, in person, pretty much every machine they sell. Thier showroom is very big, and almost every machine is in there, side by side, ready for comparison. First time I was in the showroom, I wasn't even buying a machine, I was picking up a $50 part for a different machine, one they didn't sell me, and I still left the showroom vibrating from all the espresso I drank.

Living in NY, and considering buying a QUICKMILL of all brands, from ANYWHERE but Chris Coffee Service is ridiculous if you ask me.
What I seriously suggest is give Chris Coffee Service a CALL. I wont speak for them when it comes to what kind of pricing is available on what machines, but suffice it to say, the advertised price is the price you pay when you just click "buy now". Call them, ask them for their best price. Hell, tell them flat out, you don't want to be penalized for living in NY and paying tax on the machine. You will be very surprised at what they can do for you. They WANT your business.
Call them.
Trust me. You won't be sorry. `

You know, I originally figured I would order from Clive (I purchased my Le'lit from them online), but then I read something about them shipping from New York, and thought maybe they were no longer in Portland or something. But a little further investigation shows that they only ship certain machines from New York, when they don't have them in stock.
You're right, Clive would be the better choice for me. Especially since I can take my machine back to them for repair if anything goes wrong.
And me as well. Fact is, all these vendors are reputable, and no one should hesitate to purchase from any. That said, and as was mentioned, Chris helped design several of these machines mentioned on this thread. Also, the tech department at CCS its ALWAYS there...they'll diagnose over the phone, and even take you step by step through any fixes...replace a Psat, etc.
But I will repeat, as much as I am an admirer of Chris, Mary and CCS, the other vendors are all above board. If it helps the OP, I owned an Anita for 4 years. A wonderful machine. I just got seduced by a lever!

With a HX machine you're not temp surfing- you do need a cooling flush if the machine has sat for a bit. I don't believe dual boiler machines need this at all. Here is an article from HB that describes the HX and how to control temps with the cooling flush. If it sounds complicating, don't let it worry you. The cooling flush is a quick, simple step you won't even think about once you've used a HX for a bit.

That article was very informative, thank you - which leads me to more questions :)
If I understand correctly:
1) So for a double boiler the temperature is always set to the perfect temp to extract, because it has it's own heater setting, and then the steamer has it's own heater setting? 2) So if I had a double boiler machine on for two hours and then decided it was time to make a shot, would i need to do the same thing or it will not be "overheated" 3) With a HX machine you have to drain 30 seconds of water roughly each time you do a pull unless you just pulled then maybe just 10 seconds or so 4) Does steaming milk first make the temperature different for the cooling flush? Wouldnt that decrease the heated water temp? Do i need to release some steam first before steaming milk to it is not too hot etc? Does that make a difference for a HX or double boiler?
