Hello,
I am seriously considering upgrading to a double boiler. The wish list is becoming short, and I believe I am down to the QM67 or the Duetto. I would be happy to share how I managed to reduce the list that much (I considered spaziale, brewtus, vibiemme, R58 as well), but it is not really why I am posting here.
I would like to know which vendor I should get it from. Being in Southern California, I was thinking getting it from SCG or Clive, as they are the "closest". Clive also offers some accessories (that I already have but could give away to friends), and a gift card. The reason behind this is that I guess shipping will be cheaper in case of a necessary return along the road. But getting one of the machine from CCS would also make sense, as they are the one importing it, right?
So, what do you recommend? Should I consider another vendor (maybe I missed something local)? From your experience, is there a difference in shipping between portland/seattle and the east coast (from california)?

Yes shipping is free from the 3 vendors I have in mind when you purchase, but not if you need some work done on the machine. This is my main concern. I am surprised you would not go with CCS given the fact you are on the east coast. If I was not that far from the people that import the machine, I would go with them for sure.
Hey Italo! I spent 2 days reading the 2 long posts you star in. Sorry for your R58 misadventure, hope all will sort out soon for you.
Here is how I eliminated some of the DB out there:
Let's start we the R58: I simply do not like the external PID. It is a deal breaker for me. The reason I am considering a double boiler with PID is for the PID, and the possibility to change temp every morning depending on which coffee I feel like drinking. I want to experiment with this and see how I can get the most out of my home roasted coffee.
Spaziale: right now I cannot plug my machine. The option of plugging it in the future can be nice, but I am used to a tank, and really do not mind. Anyway, right now, it has to be a tank. Unfortunately, the tanks on the Spaziale look difficult to access. For this reason, plus the fact that filter baskets are not standard, it is out.
Vibiemme: it is my understanding that the PID only controls the group boiler temp. The steam boiler still uses a pressure stat that is more prone to failure.
Expobar brutus: Same as Vibiemme, and only vendor is on the East coast (back to the initial question of this thread ;-) )
This is how I end up with the QM67 and the duetto. Between the 2, I am not sure yet. But the QM67 maybe be my favorite: smaller footprint, and probably a faster heating time. Duetto is a work horse that has proven to be reliable according to this forum, very stable. But big and a little more expensive.

Hey Mat, when I did my up grade, and trying to find a vender, I called all that I was thinking of buying from. I got a feel for what they were selling, how they were selling it, and if they had my best interest in mind. Call all 3 - see what you think.

I bought my machine from CCS, and can say I am very happy with the customer service. Ive emailed Chris with NUMEROUS questions about the machine and he has answered me every time and always either the same day or next day. Also, I live in Boston and receive my orders the very next day. That included my QM67, which was packed very nicely, and was received in PERFECT condition.
